Geisinger medical students, faculty to share insights at community event

SCRANTON – High school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine are invited to attend The Pathway to Becoming a Doctor on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. at Geisinger College of Health Sciences, 525 Pine St., Scranton. The event is free and open to students and their families.

Participants will hear from the Geisinger Commonwealth Pathway Programs team and current medical students about how to prepare now for a future in medicine.

Topics include:

Choosing the right high school and college courses
Understanding the medical school timeline
Building the skills every future doctor needs
Extracurriculars, volunteering and shadowing opportunities
How to stand out as a medical school applicant

“This is a unique opportunity for high school students to see what their journey to becoming a physician could look like,” said Maureen Murtha, executive director of Pathway Programs. “By hearing directly from our medical students and faculty, they’ll gain valuable insight into the steps they can take today to prepare for success.”

Students and families will also have the chance to ask questions and connect with medical students who are navigating the path to becoming physicians.

Registration is required at go.geisinger.edu/pathwaytodoctor.
