Six Geisinger hospitals named Blue Distinction® Centers for orthopaedic specialty care
Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre received the distinction for knee and hip replacement surgeries. Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton and Geisinger Lewistown Hospital received the distinction for knee and hip replacements as well as spine surgeries, while Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center achieved the designation for spine surgeries.
“This is truly an honor for these hospitals and for the Geisinger Department of Orthopaedics,” said Mark Pallis, D.O., chair of orthopaedics at Geisinger. “The Blue Distinction is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our clinical care teams. We are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care every day for every patient we see. We are proud to offer world-class orthopaedic care to the members of our communities so close to home.”
The Blue Distinction designation is a national recognition awarded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and given to hospitals and providers that demonstrate expertise in delivering high-quality specialty care leading to better outcomes for patients.
To receive the distinction, hospitals must demonstrate quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results. These centers have lower complications and fewer hospital readmissions and reoperations.
