Residents and Alumni
Chief's Corner
Welcome to Geisinger Radiology! We are the current chief residents, Thom Drew and Savan Patel. We’d like to share with you what makes the Geisinger radiology residency one of a kind and why we love training here.
In addition to our extremely well-rounded training and complex pathology, our program has many characteristics that make it unique and set our learners up for success.
- No diagnostic radiology fellows – that means you get to read and learn the fellowship level imaging.
- Moderately sized program – Our residents get to know each other and the faculty well which allows our faculty to greatly assist us in achieving top fellowship locations.
- Hybrid-type institution that emphasizes vital clinical education – As first years, you’ll have the opportunity to learn directly from attendings at the workstation. In following years, you’ll be granted more autonomy based on your clinical acumen and by the time you are working night float you will be virtually independent — but never fear, a night hawk is always actively working on staff to assist with any questions you may have.
- Unrivaled physics education – Taught by medical physicist Karen Brown, we repeat a yearly curriculum which includes multiple review sessions for the board exam. With years of experience and writing test questions for the exam, Karen is an invaluable resource for us!
- Wellness is a priority – We take mental and physical health seriously! We received 30 minutes of “wellness time” every day — and this is our time to do as we please. We also plan monthly outings for those who are interested and have many other group outings throughout the month.
- Diverse and inclusive work environment – Our residency cohort includes people of all ages and at all stages of life, each with unique stories.
- Unique location – Geisinger is a metropolitan sized, level 1 trauma center located in a laid-back, family-friendly and safe town surrounded by luscious greenery and situated along the Susquehanna River. Housing is affordable and traffic is virtually non-existent. Hiking and biking trails, boating and rafting locations, farmers markets and microbreweries are abundant. Both larger cities and remote, scenic getaways are quickly accessible.
Thank you for your interest in our program — email us with any questions. We think you’ll see why Geisinger has one of the best radiology programs in the country. Wishing you well during this application season and in your future career.
