Geisinger Community Medical Center
Understanding and meeting our community’s needs.
Geisinger Community Medical Center, in Scranton, Pa., brings healthcare services to Lackawanna County — including many that aren’t available anywhere else locally.
Since 2015, we’ve invested more than $200 million in upgrades, renovations and new facilities at Geisinger Community Medical Center. And our goal is to continue to expand clinical and community services across a wide range of disciplines, always with the most immediate needs of Scranton area residents in mind.
The 2021 community health needs assessment identified the following priorities across all Geisinger’s service areas: Access to care; behavioral health (including substance abuse and mental health strategies); and chronic disease prevention and management (with a focus on increasing healthy habits).
Understanding the needs of the people of Lackawanna County has led to many upgrades and expansions at Geisinger Community Medical Center. These include:
- The development of multidisciplinary cancer services (including new providers, a local mammography center and expanded infusion services).
- The establishment of a new multi-specialty clinic that offers nutrition, podiatry, wound care, sports medicine, pulmonary medicine, infectious disease and other services.
- The SpringBoard Health initiative, which began as Springboard Healthy Scranton, continues to grow, working with local communities and community groups to alleviate chronic medical conditions, eliminate preventable cancers and other diseases and address overall socioeconomic health.
